Announcing a new Meetup for Reading LOST!
What: I Don't Know, Why the Last Man? When: November 21, 2009 4:00 PM Where: SONY public space 550 Madison Ave. atrium adjacent to Starbucks New York, NY 10036 As Hurley settles into his Ajira Airways seat, he is reading the Spanish version of Y: THE LAST MAN*, the graphic series by LOST writer Brian K. Vaughan with Pia Guerra and an assortmentof inkers. Now collected into ten volumes, it has been the talk of all fandom. *More precisely, Volume 3, "One Small Step". Yorick Brown, a small-time escape artist and victim of cruel and unusual naming by a Shakespeare scholar, finds himself a stranger and afraid after every male mammal other than himself and his Capuchin monkey drops dead at the same time. No one is more shocked than him to find the future of Homo sapiens on his shoulders, in a grim landscape which explores gender roles, weird science, and survivor's guilt. "A Boy and His Monkey" this is not. (The title deliberately echoes a novel by Mary Shelley.) We will discuss the implications of Vaughan's work before Hollywood does to it what it did to THE WATCHMEN and THE CHILDREN OF MEN. Is "Dr. M" a DHARMA vet? Would our heroes have had an easier time if they had turned to Juliet instead of Dr. Alison Mann for help in saving what's left of the world? Any Culper Ring agents or "Sons" of Arizona are on notice that even when he is unarmed the organizer is still armed. So hand over the Amulet of Helene, and nobody gets hurt. See Wikipedia for a list of the volumes in order. (Or if you want to CHEAT and read the synopses and character lists.) Learn more here: http://lost.meetup.co... |
